What do I need to register online for IELTS?

To register for the IELTS test online, you will need:

  • Access to any computer with Internet access and a scanner. If you do not have access to these, please Apply At Our Office.
  • A clear digital (scanned) copy of your valid passport OR Canadian Permanent Resident card OR Canadian Refugee Claimant Document. NO other ID will be accepted. See below for further details about accepted ID scans.

How do I register online?

First, you must choose your preferred test date and location from our Test Dates & Locations page. Once you have decided, click on the Book now! link beside your chosen test. You will be taken to the IELTS Essentials online registration page, where you will create a user account during the registration process. Each test taker must have their own account.

If you are re-applying for the test and have already created an online account, please log in with your IELTS Essentials username and password.

What identity document can I use?

You will require ONE of the following identity documents in order to register for and write the IELTS test:

Identity documents accepted by IELTS:

  • Passport (from any country)
  • Canadian Permanent Resident Card
  • Canadian Refugee Claimant Document

If you have both a passport and a PR card, please choose ONE to register with.

Canadian citizenship cards, driver’s licenses, health cards, or any non-Canadian forms of National ID are NOT acceptable.

Your identity document must be valid at the time of your registration AND on the day of your test. You MUST bring this original document with you on your test day, without it you will NOT be permitted to write the test. Do not send your ID away for extension or any other purpose until AFTER your test. On the day of your test, if you do not have the same original and valid ID you registered with, you will NOT be permitted to write the test and you will NOT be eligible for a test date transfer or refund.

Which parts of my ID must I scan?

You must upload to your IELTS Essentials account a digital copy of your chosen ID document.

Your identity document scan must clearly show:

  • your name
  • your photograph
  • your date of birth
  • your passport number
  • the expiry date of your passport (and extension if applicable)
  • your signature (if applicable)

If these items are on different pages, please scan each page and save them all as ONE file. You will not be permitted to upload multiple files. If you are having difficulty scanning or uploading your ID, please Apply At Our Office.

How can I pay for my test?

The Paper-based or Computer-Delivered IELTS test fee is $330 CDN (HST included).

You may pay online during the application process with your Visa, Visa Debit, or MasterCard. For Visa Debit, please select “credit card” as your payment method. If you would like to pay by cash or money order/bank draft (payable to “IELTS Administrator”), please choose the offline payment option and visit us at our office (112 Elizabeth St, Toronto) within 72 hours to complete your payment.

If payment is not received within 72 hours, your application will be deleted automatically.

Please note: We are not able to accept payment for IELTS test fees by debit/INTERAC at this time, both online and at our office. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused. We will update our website when this changes.

How will I know when my registration is complete?

If you pay for your test online, you will immediately receive an automatic confirmation email. If you choose to pay offline by visiting our office, you will receive a confirmation email once your payment is accepted. Your application will be deleted automatically after 72 hours if no payment is made.

You will also receive an email from us accepting or rejecting your identity document scan.

Sending Your Results – Before Application

If you would like to send your IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) to any organizations (academic institutions/government agencies/professional bodies), you will have an opportunity to enter these addresses during the online registration process.

If you are requesting an additional copy of your results for Canadian immigration purposes, the extra copy will be given to you directly. You may request this extra copy either before or after your test by filling out these forms.

Please note that organizations listed at the time of your application may access your results before you have received or viewed them. If you would like to see your results first before deciding where to send them, you may make this request later by filling out these forms.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the addresses you provide are complete and correct. Test Report Forms may not be sent to friends/family, migration agents, or education agents – they will only be sent to organizations authorized to receive IELTS results.

Sending Your Results – After Application

If you would like a copy of your Test Report Form sent to an institution after submitting your registration, there are two ways to request this.

The first form tells us where you would like your results to be sent, and the second is for payment by credit card. You may send these two forms to us by fax at 416-968-6667, or you can scan the pages and email the images to us at info@ieltstoronto.com.
